Recently, we have been working on a dust particle separator. OpenFOAM v5.0 prove to be reliable tool to estimate separation efficiency. Particularly the steady state solver simpleParcelReactingFoam helps to significantly reduce computational costs over the unsteady solvers.
The newest release of OpenFOAM brought major improvement with completely new tracking mechanism of discrete particles in barycentric coordinates. The new algorithm increased reliability of particle tracking even on meshes with bad face tets quality.
All this helped us to find flaws in design and propose geometry modifications which improved device efficiency.
